Rosie Learns to Talk

Sonic Jr's little sister, Rosie, was starting to get older. Jr one day decided to try to teach Rosie to speak properly.

Jr: OK Rosie. I think it's time you learned how to speak. So try to repeat after me.

Rosie: Jewie!

Jr: No. My name is Jr.

Rosie: Jewie.

Jr: No-no-no. Joo-Nee-Er. Joo-Nee-Er.

Rosie: Joo-Er.

Jr: No. You forgot the "Nee"

Rosie: Nee.

Jr: OK. Now say the whole name. "Joo-Nee-Er"

Rosie: Er-Nee-Joo.

Jr: Uh.

Then Sonic came in.

Sonic: Hey Jr, there's an educational program on and I think it might be good for Rosie to watch.

Jr: OK. I'll turn my TV on.

Jr has his own TV in his room. So he turns it on.

Jr: What channel is it on?

Sonic: 11.

Jr: OK.

So Jr turned to channel 11. It was a show Jr watched when he was Rosie's age. But he felt he grew out of it.

Jr: Uh this show?

Sonic: What Jr? You used to love that show.

Jr: But I'm almost 13. I'm going to go somewhere else and just leave Rosie here.

Sonic: OK.

So Jr went to go play in the snow with his friends. While he and Sarah were building a snowman together, they had a little chat.

Sarah: So, how's Rosie getting along with speaking?

Jr: Well, she's starting to get my name right. But she's saying the syllables out of order.

Sarah: Oh. Like how?

Jr: Well, she said "Er-Nee-Joo".

Sarah: That's funny.

Jr: What's so funny? She got my name wrong.

Sarah: Well this morning, Shaun called me "Hairah." Isn't that funny?

Jr: What about Will? Is he learning to talk?

Sarah: Well, he did call me "Saree" last week.

Jr: Gee, our siblings are really getting things wrong when they learn to talk.

Sarah: But we were learning difficulty in talking too. I had a hard time growing up at the orphanage.

Jr: And I remember my parents told me I learned fast.

Later that day, Jr went home to see Rosie on his bed.

Jr: Well Rosie, maybe I can't teach you to speak very quickly, but I'm sure I can try at least.

Rosie: Jr.

Jr couldn't believe what he had heard. Rosie finally got his name right.

Jr: R-R-Rosie. You-You got my name right.

Rosie: Hammer.

Jr: Where did you learn that?

Rosie: Screwdriver.

Jr: Did they air the episode with the building stuff?

Rosie: Building.

Jr: Oh my. Rosie, you're learning fast.

A couple of days later, it was Jr's 13th birthday. Every one of his friends were there.

Sarah: Happy birthday Jr.

Jr: Thanks Sarah.

Sarah: I got you this.

Jr got the gift Sarah got him. It was a book titled "How to Teach Your Baby Brother or Sister to talk."

Jr: Why, thank you Sarah. This is a great gift. Although Rosie learned a little fast from watching my old favorite educational program. She got my name right even.

Sarah: This book actually suggests TV programs can help a child to speak.

Jr: Yeah, I guess it does.

So later, Jr read the book.

Jr (Reading) : Another way to get your baby brother or sister to talk, try showing her something and saying it's name until she get's it right.

So Jr did that by going to Rosie's crib and showed her the book and said "Book".

Rosie: Jr.

Jr: Yes, you got my name right. Now say "Book."

Rosie: Buke.

Jr: Close. It's Book. B-ook.

Rosie: Book.

Jr: Right. Good job, Rosie.

Jr kept giving Rosie talking lessons after a while. And then one morning.

Jr: Good morning Rosie.

Rosie: Good morning, Jr.

Jr: What? Did-Did you just say a complete sentence?

Rosie: Yeah.

Jr: Oh man. So I guess now you can fully talk.

Rosie: Yeah.

Jr: OK then. So what would you like to do now?

Rosie: I wanna play in the snow.

Jr: OK.
